What is cloud hosting in fact? The term 'cloud' seems to be very modish in today's computing, Internet and web hosting lingo. Even so, only a few really are familiar with what cloud hosting is. Probably it is a clever idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long tale short, we will firstly let you in on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote File Storage Exclusively.

1. Delivering a remote disk storage service, which comprises one disk storage tool for all users, does not turn any given hosting corporation into an actual cloud hosting packages provider.

The cPanel hosting suppliers call the ability to supply remote data storage services a cloud hosting service. Up till now there is nothing wrong with the cloud labeling, but... we are discussing web hosting services, not remote disk storage services for private or corporate needs. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to dub a shared hosting solution, based on a one-single-server hosting platform, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" solution. That's because the other fractions of the whole web hosting platform must be working in precisely the same way - this does not refer only to the remote file storage. The rest of the services entailed in the whole hosting procedure also have to be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's quite hard. A very small number of hosting service providers can really attain it.

2. It Encompasses Domain Names, Email Accounts, Databases, FTPs, CPs, and so on.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote data storage solely. We are talking about a hosting solution, serving many domain names, web pages, mailbox aliases, and so on, right?

To call a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one calls for a lot more than providing simply remote file storage mounts (or possibly physical servers). The email server(s) need to be dedicated solely to the electronic mail associated services. Performing nothing different than these given tasks. There might be only one single or probably a whole bundle of electronic mail servers, determined by the overall server load created. To have a real cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be operating as one, regardless of their actual amount. Doing nothing else. The same is valid for the users' web hosting Control Panels, the File Transfer Protocol, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an authentic cloud hosting solutions provider will support multiple datacenter locations on different continents.

Here's an example of a DNS of a real cloud hosting vendor:

dns1.explorehosting.us

dns2.explorehosting.us

If such a Domain Name Server is provided by your web hosting plans provider, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud web hosting environment in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you spot a DNS like the one below:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud hosting platform. This kind of DNS merely displays that the web hosting environment in use is one-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-server hosting solution and has a market share of more than ninety eight percent. In cPanel's case, one single server handles all web hosting services (web, electronic mail, DNS, databases, FTP, CP(s), web site files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Description of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not confined exclusively to a remote disk storage solution, as numerous web hosting service providers wish it was. Sadly for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file hosting service providers would have been referred to as cloud web hosting ones a long time back! They are not categorized as such, because they merely furnish file web hosting services, not cloud hosting services. The file web hosting platform is indeed quite simple, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote file storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, as it's merely one tiny fragment of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be discovered in the cloud hosting platform: the hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the FTP cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the upcoming future, possibly a couple of new clouds we currently don't know about will surface out of the blue.
